I am a cheese fiend. I LOVE cheese. I have beheld the POWER of cheese and I have found it to be awesome in all it’s varieties and flavors. I could go on (and on), but you get the picture - cheese & me are best buds. Alas - cheeses are generally loaded with calories and saturated fats, and so doesn’t really fit in with my overall plan. Yes, I’ve tried a lot of the low/non-fat stuff and have found them to be mostly terrible. There is one alternative out there that I’ve actually come to enjoy - and it has nothing to do with any dairy animal: Veggie Slices. They come in a variety of flavors: Cheddar, American, Pepperjack, Mozzarella and Smoked Provolone. Do they actually taste like those flavors? Not really - they’re more like Velveeta with different flavorings that sorta mimic those flavors. Except for the American - which is a pretty tame cheese anyway. What I like best about them is that they are very melty and they do really well when mixed in with other things, like an omelet. They are pretty good on sandwiches too. My favorites are the cheddar and American, the mozzarella is kinda bland. Oh, and if you hit that link above you’ll see they have other products too - veggie shreds and whatnot. Those are crap - well, the shreds and brick versions anyway. Stick with the slices.

I think regular skim-milk mozzarella is pretty healthy, as well as the lower fat version of provolone, which has more flavor.
Then you have your hard cheeses…you can use a vegetable peeler to take a paper-thin slice off a chunk of really good parmesan and get lots of strong flavor out of it for relatively few calories…just thinking out loud here.
I just got around to reading this. Hey, I am back in the gym if you wanna come. I had to get in there too and doing pretty good. When you are ready to get your butt kicked let me know. Ask bmac. He knows. I usually work out by myself but do love to go with people. Get an ipod with 107.5 type music on it. That is the only way for me to get going on the stairmaster. We have it on the computer if you want bmac to make it for you. I need angry music to work out to. It is very helpful.
Yeah? I have an everywhere membership to 24 hour fitness. Where do you go? I think 5 minutes on a stairmaster would probably kill me.
I have a bunch of high energy songs I like to use - Blue Man Group’s Audio album is very good.
I have a 24 hour membership too but I am going to LVAC more. Its not far from your work (Decatur one) and I am pretty sure the sign says $5 to join. They usually do that at the beginning of the year.
5 minutes on the stairmaster wont kill you, I promise. You have to kind of push through the pain and then it goes away. Weird. I have to push through it too and then I am better. I burned 350 calories in 30 minutes tonight and then I went and lifted weights. I did shoulders, chest and tri’s tonight. Tomorrow: Legs.
I will have to check out Blue Man Group’s Audio. Bmac made me a “work out” section on my Ipod. I am really liking Limp Biscuit (I know that isn’t how you spell it) and Pantera. I just listen to these guys screaming angry stuff and I’m like “Yeah, what he said” and before you know it….30 minutes have gone by. When I told Bmac that I wanted all the 107.5 angry music, he created my Ipod and called me and told me that there was so much angry music on there for me that I would probably punch someone on my way out of the gym. I do feel really aggressive when I work out to that stuff and I love it. Gets all my anger out. I just got home and feel really good but I am starving and will bmac would hurry and get home. Let me know if you want to come. We can meet up. Get ahold of bmac. You know how.

5 bucks to join but how much to continue? It would help me motivate to go to a gym to meet up with someone else there. What time(s) do you go?

I joined at $5 bucks and then its $21 per month but this was a few years ago. I also have a membership at 24 hour but I think I can only go to the one close to my work. I like LVAC better. 24 hour Fitness has a bunch of girls with make up and their hair done and they just stand around looking like they are working out. They are like “Every Girl Ever”. I fricken loved that by the way. My favorite was “it’s like sitting in a hug”. I laughed all last night over that. I go after work. Somewhere between 4ish and 5:30ish, depending on what time I leave work. What time do you get off? Instead of the stairmaster, you could do the treadmill. Let me tell you how surprised I was at myself tonight….. Now you know that I haven’t quit my bad habit of smoking so you would think I would die on the stairmaster. Tonight, I had a conversation with my friend Debbie on the phone for the whole 1/2 hour I was on there. I couldn’t believe that I was actually talking while I was working out. I am telling you….You actually get strong really quick. You will be amazed at yourself. Do you ever watch Biggest Loser? Those people are getting their butts kicked and they still push through. Amazing. The one thing I don’t think I can do is run on the treadmill. I am not a good runner and I think I would fall off. I can’t believe that those contestants are running and most of them are close to 400lbs! Pretty good. I think all you need to do is convince yourself you can do it. If you want to go, let me know. Just know that I need to listen to my Pantera while on the stairmaster. Other than that, I can work with you on whatever. I can teach you some good stuff. Lifting weights is really good to burn calories too! You burn more calories lifting weights more than building muscle.
PJM, the stairmaster used to make me cry too. Its intimidating at first. I just don’t care what people think about me anymore. I am too old for that.
